The Baby Machine

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

Martin Varsavsky thought about the reason why immigrants have more children than natives. 10 years ago, immigrants “made” only 1.81 percent of all the babies, now it’s 17.6 percent, but only 8.5 percent of the population are immigrants.

Native spains have a birth rate of 1.3. The migrant’s birth rate is 3! Why it is like it is? That’s the question Martin asks himself. He thinks it’s partly the religion:

Personally, I think that immigrants have more children than natives for other reasons. One reason is religion. Europe is now mostly atheist or agnostic but immigrants are frequently religious and more willing to carry through with unwanted pregnancies.

Of course, the very high birth rate is not the only facor, but I also think it’s a big factor.

(Would be nice to see a big discussion about that interesting subject here).

Immigration

We had to write about “Immigration” today in English. I wrote a text and got a ‘+’ for it. So I want to show it to you.. It’s my opinion about these sensitive subject:

I love to talk to people from other European countries. And I like people from North America and Asia. And sometimes I like the funny accent of the migrants, but I know that it’s not funny in fact. I think I also have an accent when I’m speaking other languages.

But I think people who don’t speak any German word even when they are in Germany for a couple of years are not in the right country.

LinkedIn and the Samwer brothers

Monday, January 29th, 2007

According to Techcrunch, LinkedIn raised $13 Million from European Founders Fund, who is founded by the Samwer brother. They also gave StudiVZ money before it was sold to Holtzbrinck. Furthermore Techcrunch blogger Arrington wrote in one of the comments, that LinkedIn is preparing an IPO…

LinkedIn’s worth is $250 Million. Nico Lumma wrote on his blog:

I don’t understand why they get Venture Capital when they are preparing an IPO.
