Explode

Monday, February 26th, 2007

I joined Explode today, one of first MyBlogLog competitors. I love the design. Also Marshall Kirkpatrick from Techcrunch wrote about this. And I’m happy, ’cause I can register my first name as my user name :-). That’s the widget by the way. I will not integrate it into my English blog at the moment.

I’d be glad to see your profile names in a comment. Thanks :-).

Du bist Deutschland 2.0

Monday, February 26th, 2007

“Du bist Deutschland”, (”You are Germany”, yes, right, Germany!) wants to go into the second phase. Now it’s more focused on childrens. But there is a better patriotism campagn in Canada called “I am Canadian”:

Immigrants change the German language

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

The German magazine Focus today wrote about immigrants changing the German language and importing words from their native languages such as Arabic and Turkish (and no, Turkish is not a official language in Germany).

The Baby Machine

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

Martin Varsavsky thought about the reason why immigrants have more children than natives. 10 years ago, immigrants “made” only 1.81 percent of all the babies, now it’s 17.6 percent, but only 8.5 percent of the population are immigrants.

Native spains have a birth rate of 1.3. The migrant’s birth rate is 3! Why it is like it is? That’s the question Martin asks himself. He thinks it’s partly the religion:

Personally, I think that immigrants have more children than natives for other reasons. One reason is religion. Europe is now mostly atheist or agnostic but immigrants are frequently religious and more willing to carry through with unwanted pregnancies.

Of course, the very high birth rate is not the only facor, but I also think it’s a big factor.

(Would be nice to see a big discussion about that interesting subject here).

Why aren’t you listening to Hip Hop?

Monday, February 12th, 2007

A couple of days ago I got asked: “Why aren’t you listening to Hip Hop? Everybody’s listening to Hip Hop”. My answer: “Everybody is a Chinese. Why aren’t you a Chinese? Everybody is Chinese!”.

[Thanks David for correcting my mistakes :-P]

Love Poem

Monday, February 12th, 2007

Today we had to write a poem about love in English.. That’s mine ;-):

When my eyes are catching you,
when your smell is coming to my nose,
when my ears are listening to your voice,
then I know, that life is unimagable without you.

When your mind would die, mine would die, too!
You are everything I need and everything I want.

Why I don’t like English at school…

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

I don’t like English at school, because…

1. the teacher only explains the things to do in German
2. I’m unchallenged
3. there are very absurd words to learn: “life line” for example, but nobody can use “yet” or “even” correctly
4. the students talk to less English (means: no English!)
5. the teacher doesn’t correct notable mistakes (”peoples”, “mans”) and doesn’t correct German grammar (”old seamans driving to the sea and the family hopes that they will come back from the sea”)

I think you can learn the best English while talking / writing to people in English, such as from USA, UK or India.
